Falling snow is a symbol of forgiveness and mercy. In Krisztina Tóth’s poems, fine, barely perceptible powder snow drifts down, slowly and imperceptibly covering everything over time; and when we embark on an exciting, promising journey of discovery in this world, unique forms appear, and the most dazzling colors emerge from under the snow clinging to our feet. The turmoil of suppressed, unspoken emotions, nerves stretched to breaking point: this is how we could best describe Krisztina Tóth’s poetry, which is imprinted with womanhood, motherhood, and passions that glow deep inside but are unable to break out. In a three-part poem, imagined and seemingly real lovemaking intermingle in an almost palpable coldness, while elsewhere an ode to a fifty-year-old man is born. In the title poem, Krisztina Tóth asks poignant questions from the perspective of Christ, but also from that of Attila József: „How could thirty-two years pass? / How did the days and weeks go by?” This volume, containing new and old poems and presenting her entire oeuvre to date, is the answer.
