Krisztina Tóth only writes what is absolutely necessary, and even then very sparingly, but deeply and in many layers. She loves playfulness, the almost imperceptible humour that springs from the spirit of poetry. This is a rare virtue for someone who’s only twenty-one. Let us not forget, however, that most of these poems were written when she was still a teenager! Only the poignant sadness and sparkling cheerfulness of youth can be as lasting as what we feel when reading Krisztina Tóth. So when we hear her recite her poems in person, we are privy to a rare spiritual experience. At such times, there is only SPEECH, the elevated speech of poetry. It is her silences and pauses that speak the most: they conjure up the indescribable between us.
